Bob:

Many business leaders have got to that position by being good at something different to business leadership. They were a great salesperson, became a sales manager, then a sales director and then the managing director.

And when they get to being the managing director, they really understand how to do sales, but they don't know how to lead.

They don't know how to pull together a finance person, an operations person, a salesperson and a product development person and get them all working together.

So they look around and think, how the hell the hell did I get here? And what do I do now? Because what I used to do as a great salesperson no longer works.

Rikki:

Exactly.

Bob:

But I have to pretend to everybody I know all the answers. So I've got this conflict.  I have to pretend to be I know the answers, but in my heart I know I don't.
